DEEPEST APPRECIATION TO OUR SPONSORS AND OUR PARTNERS

We are so grateful for the support of our sponsors: Today's THV, B98.5, The River Community Church, Affiliated Foods, and Jason Hydrotherapy. However, we know we could not do what we do on a daily basis without our partners who gave sacrifically. As of Friday, March 13, 2009 we have received approximately $36, 500 in cash and pledges. Each day since the event God continues to bless us with additional commitments.

The social experiment in fund-raising on FACEBOOK provided about 34% of the monies we have received thus far. We will continue utilizing FACEBOOK for communication with our partners.

We are participating in Belk’s Charity Sale this year. We have the opportunity to sell tickets to their Charity Sale that will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be sold for $5 each, and we will receive 100% of each ticket we sell. Tickets can be sold until Friday, May 1. We have initially asked for 500 tickets, but we can pick up more if we sell the first 500. I want to encourage our friends to purchase a ticket. Also, each ticket holder will receive $5 off their first purchase the day of the Charity Sale; so they will be able to recoup the $5 for the ticket.

INVITING ARKANSAS highlights Patrick Franke, a Union Rescue Mission graduate

Today Patrick Franke, left, and I visited with a writer for "INVITING ARKANSAS" who is covering a Union Rescue Mission success story for our NIGHT ON THE STREET event. Patrick also participated in a "photo shoot". Patrick will be participating in NIGHT ON THE STREET to be held at the River Market Pavilion on Tuesday, March 10 from 4:00 pm to midnight.
What Is A Night on the Street?A Night on the Street is an unforgettable service experience for residents of Central Arkansas. You'll sleep out with only a cardboard box as shelter, learning firsthand about the challenges of being homeless. By drawing attention to the needs of the homeless, you'll put your faith into action in a concrete way and, at the same time, raise money to help prevent homelessness, domestic abuse and chemical addiction.
Join Patrick that evening and hear his stroy of God's work of grace and restoration. Also you can discover service opportunities at the Union Rescue Mission and assist in raising financial resources on the night of March 10. Plan on joining Patrick at the River Market Pavilion.

An Unforgettable Service Experience

What Is A Night on the Street?
A Night on the Street is an unforgettable service experience for residents of Central Arkansas.

Raising Money for the Homeless
A Night on the Street asks you not just to learn about homelessness but to be part of the solution. Each participant will contact their friends, church family, family several weeks prior to the event with a goal to collect a minimum of $100 in tax-deductible donations. All of the money raised will go towards the work of the Union Rescue Mission. To learn more about the Union Rescue Mission and donate online visit our website at www.urmission.org.

Safety
There is an off-duty police officer and volunteers present during the entire event. In addition, adult chaperons are required to accompany any church or community youth groups. Chaperons are responsible for keeping track of the teens in their groups.

Serving the Homeless
Participants will also have the opportunity to serve the homeless coffee, pastries, and food items as well as distribute blankets, coats, and gloves.

Be a Part of the Solution to End Homelessness

Dr. William Tollett, CEP
Executive Director

Be a Part of the Solution to End Homelessness
Save the Date:
Tuesday, March 10, 2009
Time: 4:00-12:00(midnight)

You can help change this by putting your faith into action and joining with hundreds of area people at A Night on the Street. This is an event and learning experience organized by the UNION RESCUE MISSION. It’s an opportunity for individuals, youth groups, and corporate America to speak with one voice and take action against homelessness by spending the night sleeping out and raising funds to support the work of the Union Rescue Mission - Spend the Night Sleeping in a Box.

A Night on the Street is filled with powerful learning experiences and fun. In addition to spending the night sleeping in a cardboard box, you will understand what it's like to be homeless from serving alongside those who have been there as well as learning about some of the causes of homelessness and solutions from advocates who work to help our most vulnerable.

Youth Helping the Union Rescue Mission by Raising Money
Youth participating in A Night on the Street are asked to collect $100 in donations prior to the event or call your friends from your box. All of the money will go toward the operating budget of the Union Rescue Mission, a faith-based non-profit Christian ministry reaching out to the homeless, disadvantaged, chemically addicted and domestically abused. To learn more about the Union Rescue Mission, go to www.urmission.org.

What we do...

Welcome!

It's time for the Union Rescue Mission's Night on the Street campaign. We use this event to raise awareness of homelessness in Central Arkansas as well as raise our annual operating funds.

Employees, board members, and volunteers (groups and individuals) will stay in boxes in the River Market Pavilion from 4:00 p.m. until midnight. While in those boxes, phone calls will be placed seeking monetary donations from current and potential donors.

We want this year to be larger than the 2007 event. Approximately $38,000 was raised. This year, we are setting a goal of $75,000. With your help, we are confident we will reach and possibly even surpass this goal.

You can help by contacting me, Denise Pote, at 501-374-1748 or emailing me at denise@urmission.org to sign up to volunteer in some capacity. If you are interested in staying in a box with us, then you will be given a box the week prior to the event so you can decorate it to your liking. We encourage all church youth groups, school groups, civic organizations, companies, fraternities, and sororities to decorate your boxes to represent your particular group. You are welcome to boldly display logos and Greek letters. We only ask that you remember that the Union Rescue Mission is a faith-based ministry; so please, no profanity or suggestive language on your boxes. If your group or organization requires community service hours, then this will allow you to receive eight (8) hours if you stay for the entire event.

We are excited about this wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of homelessness. The need to help the homeless is on-going in our community. We ask that you partner with us to make a difference in Central Arkansas.

Come back regularly to this blog site to see what's happening as we count down to NIGHT ON THE STREET!

Blessings,
Denise Pote
